Nike All Clear Air Force One

Nike recently released their all clear “Invisible Woman” Air Force 1, and brought the general public into a frenzy.  Most people had never seen an all clear shoe, and they went absolutely bananas.  I don’t think I have ever seen a particular shoe bootlegged in so many various colors.  It was just unreal.  The Invisible Woman AF1, and it’s sister which was a purple version in women’s sizes WERE NOT the first all clear sneakers to be released by Nike.

On January 3rd 2004, Nike released the 3rd installment of the artist series, which was a limited pack consisting of 3 sneakers, each a collaboration with a different artist.  They included the Pharrel Dunk High, The Halle Berry Air Rift, and the most coveted of the bunch, and predecessor to the all clear “invisible woman” air force one, the Espo Air Force II.   People weren’t sure what to expect of the Espos, although a few sample pictures had surfaced.  It seemed like an absurd idea to release an all clear sneaker, especially it being an Air Force Two, which was not one of Nike’s most popular retro models.

The release day came, and it was the first campout after the Supreme High release some months back, and the chaos was greater than ever.  The news of the release spread like wildfire, and the handful of stores in NYC that were actually stocking them got mobbed.  Word got out that ALife Rivington Club would be dropping them at midnight and the lines there were absolutely insane.  World famous graffiti artist Espo, who designed the clear air force sneakers for this release even showed up in his signature ice cream truck, causing a mini riot, where the police had to intervene.

After all was said and done in NYC; Niketown, ALife, Nort and the Stussy store were all sold out, and the world got to feast their eyes on one of the most innovative kicks (as far as outlandish style goes)-the first pair all clear air forces.  The Espo Air Force II had clear panels which shown through to Espo art, a clear sole, which also showed the underlying art, a few panels of 3M, the artist series hangtag, and even a nice blue pair of socks which matched the clear sneakers.

In the spring of 2006 Nike released the “Fantastic Four” pack which was a concept pack consisting of four sneakers each based off of one of the classic comic book characters.  The pack included the “Mr. Fantastic” Air Max 90, the “Thing” dunk highs, the “Human Torch” air max 95, and the most popular of the bunch the “Invisible Woman” air force 1 low.  The AF1 were the clear pair which became incredibly popular and sold out instantly.
